The Wombat Arts Regional Network established itself over 23 years ago in 2000. We have been involved in many a BAF and are so very glad it has hurdled covid to continue its 45-year-plus tradition as it’s traditional for us as an arts group too! From contributing to related events, the grand street parade, curating costumes, floats and holding ‘themed’ exhibitions in the Mechanics Hall to more recently our now newly renowned work in enhancing the streetscape of Inglis St with tree banners and artworks.
Each year brings a new theme and a new sense of creative excitement for our members and the community. Even more recently Wombats has worked in collaboration with the BAF committee to hold workshops for the local community to get involved in creating artwork for the festival or participating in banner making and street decor. This brings us so much joy. This year, Wombat has run workshops for young people to design ‘Super-Heroes’ that will be displayed in Zest Cafe, and also workshops for community members to assist with painting tree banners. Our big feature of the streetscape will be the décor at the Post Office. You can’t miss it!
Last year, in 2022 the Ballan and Districts Artists Collective was also established. The collective showcases a wide range of art at the Ballan Arts Space 117B Inglis St Ballan. Each month brings a new theme and new exhibition. It was so wonderful to help ‘Spring’ back BAF last year by calling out to our artist to theme an artwork around ‘BLOOMS’. We thought this linked in well with The Ballan Autumn Festivals ‘Bloomin’ Marvellous’ theme and boy was it Marvellous! The work entered was incredible ( as it is every month ) and it was extra special to have the exhibition open on Ballan Autumn Festivals opening night and throughout the weekend. This month’s theme is LOVE. And again, come check it out!
The Artists’ Collective is currently calling for expressions of interest for the forthcoming ‘Autumn’ themed exhibition, which’ will also include ‘Super- Heroes’ in collaboration with this year’s BAF.

We can’t wait to see what creativity keeps coming from our community as BAF begins to kick back into gear again.
